Hello!
Sorry it took me so long to add to the wiki site! I just joined your group, so first of all thank you for welcoming me and for starting the wiki site. I am also in the eastern time zone, and I work from about 6:45- 3:30 pm. Though many days I stay at work much later! Luckily, it is now the end of the school year, so I should have more time to participate in the wiki site. I work in a public high school in Montgomery County, MD; I teach US History and Advanced Placement American Government. I am also married (coming up on 7 years), and I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old (both girls) at home. They take up a lot of my time once I get home from school! I look forward to working with all of you this week and beyond. You can reach me at Jennifer.Yang@waldenu.edu .
Hello Everybody,
I too am new to using a WIKI. I was unsure if I am posting this correctly but hope that I am. I live in Greeneville TN and gradyated from Tusculum College in Dec 2010. I am currently working as a conservator for individuals with disabilities. I have 28 on my caseload that I make major life decisions for as well as visit them, hold meetings about them, and ensure their needs are met. I also am a substitute teacher for the Greene county school systems. Due to limited teacher hiring in my district, I did not get a teaching position last year but am praying that I do this year. I work crazy hours as each day is different. One day can be 9-2, the next 11-5, then 12-7. I never really know from day to day so if you email me and I don't respond, please give it time and I will. I have been with my husband 12 years, married for 6 and we have a very busy four year old. They both are very supportive and loving. I am in the eastern time zone. I look forward to working with all of you.
Hi Classmates,
I am a fourth grade teacher at a fantastic Core Knowledge Charter School. This is my fifth year at this school and my seventh year teaching. I have a class of twenty-nine students which include a diverse population of students with a variety of learning needs. The last two years, our school has gone through a major growth spurt as we have added 58 new students per grade level and two new teachers for each grade. Our school offers great technology access to our students with an interactive Promethean Board in every class along with the active responders. We are working hard at meeting the 21st century learning needs of our students. Our school is also working on a major strategic plan preK-12. It's exciting to be a part of a dynamic, synergetic learning community. On the personal side, I have three children: a 23 year old son in pharmacy school, a 19 year old son who is a college sophomore on a full ride baseball scholarship (We travel many miles to watch a lot of games!), and a 16 year old daughter who is soon to be a junior in high school and loves to play volleyball. I also have a wonderfully supportive husband who is thankfully my number one fan! My email address is Carrie.Silva@waldenu.edu or Carrie.Silva@gmail.com. I will be out of town June 16th through the 22nd on a mission trip to Puerto Rico. Yeah! I look forward to doing this project together and learning new ways I can integrate technology in the classroom. - Carrie Silva
Hi Everyone,
I hope I'm doing this right as I have never used a Wiki before (honestly, not even heard of it until last week!) but it seems to be a genius way to collaborate and I'm looking forward to using it/learning about it! I recieved my bachelor's degree and teaching certificate in 2002, the same year that my first son was born and started teaching in a weekday preschool program (so I could stay home part time with the little one) as a lead 4 year old teacher. The program is very advanced and while I was teaching many Kindergarten concepts, the curriculum is not as structured as a full-day Kindergarten. I taught there since 2003 and expanded our family to three little boys, now 9, 6, and 4. Next year, our youngest will go to school full-time so I've quit my preschool job on faith and currently seeking a teaching position with the county. I am in a unique position in this program in that I do not have a current classroom/system to draw experience from or reference. This is providing it's challenges for me, however, I have been very involved with the county for 5 years while my children have been in school as well as working as a private tutor for students from K-12. I also have a sister-in-law that works at my children's school hwo helps me with a lot of "insider intel". This is my first class with Walden so I'm still in the adjustment phase. Upon Ms. Adam's advice, I am acting as a Kindergarten teacher for curriculum design purposes for this class, since that is the age of learners with which I am most familiar. Besides my family and schooling, I also train for and compete in triathlons (just finished the Iron Girl on Sunday). This is a time consuming hobby but I get a lot of clarity during my workouts and actually come up with thoughts for applications and discussions while I'm swimming/biking/running! It helps to clear my head. :-) Lastly, I have to give mention to my fabulous husband, who backs me 100% in all my many ventures. It's with his support, and my faith in God, that I am able to thrive.
I'd like to thank Carrie for setting this up. I think it's ironic that her email said "since everyone is busy", when clearly, Carrie, you are quite busy yourself. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I look forward to working with y'all (I live in Georgia!).
